Central Florida CRE Community Mourns The Passing Of Total Commercial Founder Rick Orr
The Central Florida commercial real estate community is mourning the loss of Rick Orr, founder of TotalCommercial.com and a longtime industry leader whose career spanned more than four decades.
Orr entered the real estate business in 1983, concentrating on commercial properties. As the industry expanded, he recognized the need for a more efficient way to connect brokers, properties and prospective buyers and tenants.
In 1990, Orr founded The Property Sourcebook, a printed commercial real estate listing publication that eventually produced more than one million printed pages each month. Years before online property databases became commonplace, he took the publication online in August 1995—positioning the platform among the industry’s early digital listing resources.
After selling The Property Sourcebook in 2005, Orr launched TotalCommercial.com the following year. The platform became a widely used resource for commercial property listings, professional directories and industry networking.
Orr also remained closely involved with Central Florida’s commercial real estate organizations. He served as a director of the Central Florida Commercial Real Estate Association and participated in the Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association’s Commercial Council. Through TotalCommercial, he supported dealmaking meetings and other programs that helped brokers promote properties, exchange market information and build professional relationships.
His legacy reaches beyond the companies he created. Orr helped guide Central Florida’s brokerage community through the transition from printed listing books to searchable online platforms, changing how commercial real estate professionals shared information and conducted business.
CRE-sources extends its condolences to Rick’s family, friends, colleagues and the many commercial real estate professionals whose careers and businesses were touched by his work. His entrepreneurial vision and lasting contributions to the industry will not be forgotten.
