Major South Florida Industrial Tenant Shifts Operations To Central Florida

A longtime tenant at a large South Florida industrial park is moving its headquarters and distribution operations to Lakeland. The relocation will leave behind a sizable warehouse and eliminate dozens of jobs in Miami-Dade County.

Nearly Natural LLC, an online retailer and manufacturer of artificial plants, trees and floral arrangements, plans to relocate its headquarters and distribution operations from Hialeah to Lakeland.

The company currently occupies approximately 210,000 square feet at 3870 W 108th Street in Countyline Corporate Park. Nearly Natural has been one of the industrial development’s largest tenants.

The planned move will result in the permanent closure of the Hialeah operation and the elimination of 60 South Florida positions, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the Florida Department of Commerce. The layoffs are expected to take effect October 12.

Nearly Natural’s move adds another sizable distribution user to the Lakeland market, which has become an increasingly important logistics hub because of its location along the Interstate 4 corridor between Orlando and Tampa. The area provides companies with access to both metropolitan regions while offering a generally lower-cost alternative to South Florida industrial space.

The company appears to be staffing its new Central Florida operation. Recent job postings have advertised warehouse, operations and quality-control positions in Lakeland.

Nearly Natural sells artificial greenery, seasonal décor and related products through its own website and national retailers. The business has operated in South Florida for more than two decades.

The company’s departure will return a large block of industrial space to the Hialeah market while transferring its distribution activity to one of Central Florida’s most active logistics corridors.
