Largest Listed Land Parcel In Okeechobee County Sells

Avison Young completed the $5.3 million sale of the largest listed land parcel in Okeechobee County, a 1,107-acre land parcel dubbed Hudson Lakes located at 6900 Highway 98 in Okeechobee. The property sold for nearly 60 percent more than the national average price per acre for farm land. Gary Gottlieb and Keith O’Donnell, Principals with Avison Young, represented the seller, Dry Lake Properties, LLC, in the disposition to Mission Farms of Wellington, Inc. Previously, the subject of a master-planned community proposed to contain nearly 3,000 residential units, an assisted living facility, a recreational area, commercial town center and retail/office space, the Hudson Lakes land will be used by new ownership to raise cattle.

“Okeechobee County has experienced a resurgence in interest from the agricultural sector, especially from the cattle industry. While vertical development in this area has not seen a significant rebound following the economic downturn of several years ago, land acquisitions for agricultural purposes have become more prevalent,” said Gottlieb.

The Hudson Lakes land is located along the northeast side of US Highway 98 in Okeechobee, the county seat. The large parcel benefits from its proximity to major thoroughfares allowing convenient access to numerous larger cities, as well as its untapped natural environmental beauty along the shore of Florida’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Okeechobee.
