Lake Nona Gets OK On Mixed-Use Town Center Project
<![CDATA[Lake Nona will soon start work on its planned town center mixed-use development in Medical City. The Orlando City Council on March 31 approved a plan for the first phase of the Lake Nona Town Center, which will include a 200-room, dual-branded Marriott hotel, 80,000 square feet of office, 23,550 square feet of retail/restaurant space, a 300-unit urban-style apartment complex and structured parking. Construction is set to start in May on the town center, which will bring much-needed office space and restaurant options to the 600-acre emerging Medical City life-sciences hub in southeast Orlando. Medical City is anchored by the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, Nemours Children’s Hospital, the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and the University of Florida Research & Academic Center. And with the Orlando VA Medical Center’s slated debut by year-end, the hub is expected to create 30,000 jobs by 2017. Lake Nona also was named one of the top-selling master-planned communities in the U.S. last year by national real estate research firm RCLCO.
