Tavistock To Build Pop-Up Shipping Container Food Truck Park

The Lake Nona Town Center is getting a new addition foodies will rejoice over: a food truck park made of shipping containers.

Tavistock Development Co., under the related entity Lake Nona Land Co. LLC, requested a temporary use permit from the city on May 29 to allow the development of an open-air food and entertainment venue made up of repurposed shipping containers that will include food trucks, a dog park and a recreation area for children.

“While exploring various entertainment opportunities throughout the Lake Nona Town Center, we were inspired by different repurposed shipping container projects across the globe,” Tavistock spokeswoman Jessi Blakley told Orlando Business Journal in a prepared statement. “Our vision is to build an open-air district that showcases our culinary innovation along with an outdoor entertainment venue and shops to create a space that’s unique not only to Lake Nona and Central Florida, but first-of-its kind on the East Coast.”

Shipping containers have been used in other places throughout the country for office spaces, play areas, bars and restaurants. One of the more popular container parks is is the Downtown Container Park in Vegas.

The proposed development would be in the Town Center at 6877 Tavistock Lakes Blvd. That site currently provides temporary parking to existing Town Center uses in the interim before the completion of “Garage G.”

Tavistock is seeking to build 18 structures constructed using repurposed shipping containers. Most of the structures will be single-story, on-grade structures. Some structures will include a second level for seating areas, according to Tavistock’s request.

Food trucks will access the site via the existing right-in-only curb cut on Tavistock Lakes Boulevard, which will become gated.

Tampa-based iDesign Architects is on the team for designing the park.

The proposed hours for the pop-up park are:

• Thursday and Friday from 3-11 p.m.

• Saturday from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.

• Sunday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
